9800 pro low frame rates

I just got an ATI 9800 pro. I am running a 2500+ barton, 512 mb XMS pc3200 ddr ram, epox 8rda3+ rev 2 mobo, serial ata hard drive. It seems like I am getting kinda low frame rates for this setup. On Unreal 2003 I get 90 to 120 with it turned up on high and graphics card set on balanced. I get about 60-80 in NOLF 2, 30-40 in commanche 4. I got 15199 in 3dmark 2001, and only 2599 in 3dmark 2003. I have the latest catalyst drivers too. Any ideas?

thats low in 3dmark.

However the others are about right. Alot of people expect to buy a 9800 and get 8000fps in everything. 90 - 120 is great in in unreal 2003 60 80 in nolf isnt bad.

I have no experience with commanche sorry.

However something must be messed somewhere for 32 mark to be so low.

Ditto, usually I reboot after making the change, seems to work better that way.

Ok. Good to know frame rates are about right. I guess I just thought they would be higher. As far as the 3d mark score goes I have no idea what to try and fix. Also I have my AA and AF on app. preference.

change AA/AF to off, restart, and then run 3D Mark again...should notice a big difference, especially in 2003...

jdogg...i am going to try this....but just out of curiosity shouldn't this card get good stable frame rates with aa and af enabled?
also should i turn fast writes on or off? any other settings that may help?

Ok i dont see where to turn aa and af off completely....i am only able to uncheck it and make it enabled or check it and make it application preference.....i am running catalyst 3.8 drivers

uncheck the custom settings tab and just set the performance slider to Balanced, which is going to revert any changes you make to default. You will be able to run at stable frame rates with a 9800 Pro, which it looks as if you are doing, but no one will get amazingly high FPS with those settings enabled....but as long as you get 30-60FPS, then you're still doing well. If you are unhappy with your performance, try overclocking using Radclocker, which fits into the control panel and works really well.

I did all of that and my frame rates went up to about 50-120 on nolf 2.....which is fine but I just wish it would jump so much......it mainly stays around 70-80 but it does drop to 50 sometimes......I also oc my system to a 3000+ and reran 3dmark 2001 and 2003....i got 16149 in 2001 and 6069 in 2003....does this seem about right?

I noticed a nice step up in performance oddly enough on my 8rda+ by upping the PCI clock to 64 over the default 32, I thought that the agp, while bridged to the pci slots used a completely dedicated pipe though, so it shouldn't have affected anything, but scores with my 3200+ and 9700 pro jumped about 1000 points in 3dm2001 by changing it *shrug*

my new 128 mb nVidia GF4 MX440 8x AGP video card is getting 40-50 fps on UT2003 at the highest settings. i also left AA and AF on app. preference. I bought the vid card for $50. The game is running smooth. You should be getting better fps for a $300 video card. oh my other stats: AMD 2000+ XP, ECS K7S5A, 512 pc2100 ram, 60 gig maxtor 8mb buffer 7200 rpm, winxp pro.
