9800 pro install probs

I just go an ATI 9800 Pro retail, after i install the drivers and reboot i get a checkerboard, i tried installing different Cat versions, updated my nforce drivers, tried different vcore voltage, and its still the same thing, it freezes at the welcome screen when loading windows xp, the only way i can get it to load and do anything is by hitting f8 and selecting enable VGA mode, Anyone know what the prob could be?

im not sure, but it may be heat or power supply problems. what power supply do u have?

I have a 450w Austin PS that came with my Cheiftec case, but I went to Best buy and exchanged the video card out and this new one works fine.
