9800 Pro EZ

Since i can't use the 9600XT I JUST BOUGHT because it is refurbished and didn't come with the PROPRIETARY cable needed to hook it to my monitor, I'm now in the market AGAIN for a video card.

I was thinking about going 9800 Pro, I saw one for $148, the EZ model.... what's that?

Also, for <$200, what's best AGP video card?

I've never seen a video card that uses a proprietary cable. DVI->VGA adapters are not "proprietary".

The 9800EZ is, I'm pretty sure, another name for the 9800SE (4 pipes, either 128- or 256-bit memory interface, performs similarly to the 9600XT). The 6600GT would be a *lot* faster than either of those cards.

Edit: I just saw your other thread.

The OP bought a 9600XT AIW refurb, so it didn't come with the breakout cable for the VIVO. He seemed to think this was a DVI port (????) for some reason (although it's very clearly not a DVI connector). These cards do not have DVI output capability; they have dual VGA outs instead.

You can get an adapter from ati's site for around $10 if you have a vga monitor and only a dvi card.
Also, the "EZ" basically represents how its "EZ" on the budget, but even more "EZ" on the graphics. In other words, its cheap, but not cheap enough to offset its lack in performance.

DO NOT get the EZ by Powercolor, which is what I assume you are talking about. It is a 9800 Pro in the sense that it has a 8x1 architecture, however the memory operates on a 128-bit bus vs. the standard 256-bit for a 9800 Pro. This leads to dramatic performance drops, which I soon found. (I bought one without researching anywhere near as much as I should have). The card is also rather unstable. I have had issues with running 3dMark03 and various other issues related to games.

Save and get a true 9800 pro with 256-bit or a 6600GT.

Everyone knows SE sucks, so now they come up with EZ instead. Wonder what will be next...

LX, GT, DELUXE, XTREME, MEGA, you name it, they'll keep crankin out wierd names for things that are... WIERD THINGS! 😉 (come on now, how many "9800" variations do we really need? a pro, and a standard would be plenty, but no, we have an EZ, a SE, a 128bit SE, an 8 pipe SE, a 128bit 4 pipe/256MB SE, and others, it's just wierd)
