9800 Pro Cooling

Hello,

My friend has a 9800 pro 128MB video card that the fan has stopped working on. Because of this, the card will no longer run 3D games over any length of time. He says that it runs just fine if just running normal applications, but to try and use a 3D game causes the display to become corrupted and eventually he can't distinguish anything. The fan appears to be seized and there are no foreign objects jamming it up. It has worked for roughly 4 months without incident. Not realizing it was the fan, he tried unistalling, reinstalling drivers, reinstalling directX-9.

Does anybody have a recommendation for an aftermarket fan that would be appropriate for his video card? It should be covered under warranty, but he would rather purchase a higher quality fan so that he doesn't have to risk ruining the card again.

Thanks

Get this it works great and also takes the heat out of your case. Easy to install plus quit!! Plus if your friend wants to O/C he will get good preformance Vga silencer

The link worked for me....thanks JH68!

This looks like a total replacement for the fan and heatsink - do you know if it is and is the installation pretty straightforward? I'll probably end up doing it for him....

Worked fine for me too, one of the better looking aftermarket coolers for the 9800 - just might have to get me one ... thx!

I have the vga silencer on my ati 9800 non-pro. It works amazingly well, actually. I highly recommend it. Incidentally, I purchased it from frontier as well, but from the b&m store.

With stock 9800 non-pro HSF and no mem coolers, I was stuck at about 330/330. With the vga silencer (fan on high) and some ram sinks, i'm up to 405/345 - and it runs cooler than before, too.

That's quit a performance hike, especially for the cost of that cooler. He won't be doing any overclocking, but nice to know its a quality cooler.

Thanks!!
