I would expect 5500 or more with a 9800Pro.
The benchmark is GPU limited, not affected much by the rest of the PC.
Check you have AA/AF off and res is set to 1024x768 standard.

ahh...i see. in my ATI options, i just set 'use application preference' for both direct3d and opengl. so i should set it to custom and then turn off AA/AF and then try 3dmark? i doubt that 3dmark turns on AA/AF tho. i was also wondering if the 'smartgart' did anything. i tried setting it at 8x and then restart my comp and it gave me a BSOD. but then my comp auto-restarted and turned off the smartgart automatically.

Check dxdiag and see if "AGP texture acceleration" is enabled.
Sometimes when installing new drivers disable it.

Yes. You should be getting close to 6K with that system

That's your problem. If all your options in the "display" tab aren't enabled you need to reinstall direct x and your drivers. AGP texture acceleration as well as the 2 other options should be enabled. That's what's keeping you in that score.

Yes and make sure to check dxdiag until you see everything is enabled

Make sure you totally remove the drivers using the program DriverCleaner after you uninstall the ATI drivers from Add/Remove or from Display Properties.

When you uninstall ATI or Nvidia drivers using 'uninstall drivers,' they leave many .dlls and extensions in the system, and, particularly on ATI cards, these leftover drivers conflict with one another and cause problems upon a second installation of the drivers.

So, unistall the drivers as normal, then run DriverCleaner and search for and remove everything from the 'ATI' section. Reboot and then install the Catalyst 4.6 drivers and away you go!

Install your MB chipset drivers first.

Yeah, definitely check your motherboard's chipset drivers and make sure you have the latest installed. My 9800Pro score 5500 in 3dMark03, no chipser drivers installed can cripple your scores and performance.

I can't seem to find the correct MB drivers for a MSI Neo platinum. I've been getting 2900 as a score with virutally the same system! I checked the dxdiag thing and that's all set, I must assume it's the MB drivers.
