9800 PRO AIW turner vs Leadtek Expert

How do the TV functions compare with the AIW against the Leadtek Expert ?

I have extra slots on my mohterboard, so if I could save some $ by buying the 9800 PRO w/o the Turner, and then buying a cheap tuner card, then I will

The AIW is a more mature product, and higher quality tuner and software. The leadtek card is pretty popular and adequate for the price. Whether its a better value depends on the price delta between AIW and plain 9800pro, and whether you use the more advanced features or not.

So the TV Tuner that comes with the AIW is considered a pretty good tuner card. Better than the Leadtek Expert?

The AIW tuner itself is an analog phillips model. The VIVO chip, R300 VPU and AGP bus makes the AIW better than the leadtek model. The VIVO chip on the AIW 9800pro is the Theater200, with 12 bit ADC and 2D adaptive comb filter. The hardware filtering with the r300+ models sets it apart allowing filtering during realtime captures without dropping frames. YPbPr output is only a "+" if you have a use for it.

The leadtek has a pretty impressive specs as well, 10bit ADC's, adaptive comb filter, it also has an FM tuner, something only AIW 9600pro/xt models have. Thats why the leadtek is popular, decent card for a decent price. Out of the box, the AIW has far better software package....but, the leadtek is supported on a variety of 3rd party softwares as well. Harware and software wise, it just comes up a little short of AIW cards, but its still good.

Also think about the fact if you upgrade your AIW card, you lose (or pay more again) for your TV tuner functions. With the leadtek, you can upgrade your 3d video card seperately for a cheaper price and keep your same TV functions. Price difference = 9800 AIW $260-300, Leadtek + 9800 Pro can be found for $200
