9800 PRO AIW problems

I just bought a 9800 PRO AIW (mfd by ATI) and I cannot get my system to POST with the new card in, I am getting a POST code 26 (the EPoX book says this is "reserved"). The fan on the card runs.

System specs:
EPoX 8KTA3+ mobo
AMD Athlon 1.3 GHz
Sparkle 350W PS
512 MB ram

This is an upgrade, and the system boots up fine when I put my old card back in, a GeForce 2 MX. I have tested the 9800 in two other systems, it worked in a Athlon 1800+ Soyo KT400 Dragon system, so I know it's not a bad card. I have been led to suspect a conflict with my mobo, as it gave the same problem in another system with the EPoX 8KTA3+.

I have tested it both plugged into the PS and not. I have flashed the BIOS to the newest version available. I have made sure to disable Fastwrite and have made sure Init Display first is set to AGP. I made sure to run Driver Cleaner to clean the old drivers. Have also tried changing AGP speed and aperture sizes.

I have searched all over and have seen similar problems but none of the suggested solutions seem to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The 8KTA3 is kind of an old board (KT133A chipset)... I used to have it myself.
Stable but old... and I don't see it on their website any longer.

I see you just about tried most things. THe 8kta3 is a 4x AGP board... doesn't support 8x.
The video card ought to support 4x you'd think. It's AGP 2.0 specs on that motherboard as well so, It maynot be compatible with that board??

Thanks for your reply. I had considered this as well. As far as I can tell it should be compatible. First, I know the different AGP cards are keyed differently, and the key on this card matches my AGP slot. The 9800 system requirements list compatibility with AGP 2X(3.3V), AGP 4X(1.5V), and AGP 8X(0.8V). The EPoX board is running at 1.5V AGP. In the other 8KTA3+ system I have here, a 9600 PRO is running fine. I'm really at a loss at to what is wrong.

Did you find a solution yet? I have exactly the same problem with my EPoX 8KTA3+ mobo and my new card (Radeon 9800 Pro). Funny thing is, that I did get it going once. But after using the old card for a couple of days and putting the new card back in, it does not boot any more.

Same problem here guys. After reading about 9700pro AIW problems I did come across a temporary fix to boot up that worked with my RMA'd 9800 too. I unplugged the extra power cable before I powered on, then after a few seconds, but before it checks for the extra power, i plug it in. I can get it to start up this way, and it runs totally fine...but again, botting up is still the problem. I'm not really sure what mobo I have...Compaq lol...but its odd, my previuos 9700 pro AIW booted up fine, why would this 9800 not?...

Uhm...... I seem to recall someone on this forum having a similar problem (I might be confused), I think it had something to do with his Power Supply Unit, something about a short protection circuit on the PSU that was conflicting with the power connector of the 9800 PRO.

Have you tried with another card that requires a power connection from the PSU?, maybe try a different PSU ?

If you do a search on this forum you might be able to find it.

Hope that helps.
