I currently have a 8800 gts 512. For about 250, evga is letting me step up to the 9800 gx2 which has 1 gig ram. I havent done much research at all, but is this card better and is it really worth the extra 250. Isnt the 9900 coming out sometime later this month which will be able to top this card. I was just wondering..how much better ? Well if you guys can help me with that, it would be awesome! Thank you!

the GX2 is basically two 8800GTS 512 in SLI.

Unless you're running 19x12 or higher resolutions, a single 8800GTS is more than plenty, save your money.

If you are... it could be worthwhile, seeing as you don't have an SLI-capable mobo, and that's the only way to get SLI performance without an Nvidia mobo.

9900's aren't expected until Q3 I believe.

If you are thinking of stepping up, make sure you have a compatible PS. Like Jax said, your board would have to be one of nvidia's to use SLI. If you must upgrade, have a back up video card and can wait about 3 weeks, you should just step up.

9900 are not coming until july at the earliest. 9800GX2 will be a big step up in terms of performance, though less than 100%. If you do not mind the annoyances that come with SLI technology (specifically, inability to use dual monitors) and have the money to spare, by all means do upgrade.

Do you NEED any more power than the 8800GTS gives you now?

If not, be happy with it and wait until later in the year when the real next gen cards come out. You will probably be able to get a single GPU card then that will run as well as the GX2.

in this case... (512mb of ram) x2 != 1GB ram

The decision is yours, but I'd only do it if you are unhappy with the GTS.
