System Specs:

Case is Silverstone TJ109 (or something)
Vista SP1
Q9450 2.66 quad core
4 gig ram
SB X-Fi Titanium Champ
Westinghouse LVM37W3 37" monitor

more importantly:
EVGA 9800 GX2
EVGA 780i motherboard

When i 1st built my computer i ran Crysis with reasonable fps and every other game ran flawlessly

In the 4 months ive owned this piece of ____ i am now reduced to running the computer with the side of the case off and I have a super loud box fan pumping air into the case (no i dont have it super close i know fans = magnets)

anyway the computer now overheats running CS Source for 5 min with the settings as low as they can go at 1920x1080.

I also set RivaTuner to put my vid cards fan speed at 100% and i have SpeedFan to monitor temps of everything else on the board. with rivertuner maxing the cards speed and having a box fan pumping air, the video card only goes up to like 59C, never higher, but SpeedFan tells me some parts are hitting 60-70C then bombing the computer

at idle: rivetuner says my vid card is at 53C
speedfan:
sys 23C
cpu 30C
aux 32C
temp 54C
core0 52C
core1 37C
core2 40C
core3 44C

not sure what all those numbers apply to but what i do know is those numbers go up 50-100% within 5 minutes of playing counterstrike.

The 9800gx2 sits above the southbridge by like .01 inches or some shit
so if i downgrade the card will I be ok or do i need a new motherboard as well since this one has overheated prolyl 1000+ times now and dies after 5 min of playing where as before it worked fine when i firstgot it.

its so depressing to spend 3000 on a paper weight

playing warhammer beta for 25 min it goes:

sys 44C
cpu 47C
aux 46C
temp 67C
core0 66C
core1 51C
core2 55C
core3 60C

and rivatuner tells me my card is at 60C

being a 780i owner , I have to ask if you remounted the crap nb-sb heat pipes and do you check their temps in the bios.
-only retail Everest will give the nb-sb temps in windows ,speed fan does also , but I have yet to see which temps refer to the nb-sb and what offsets are required.
I remount my heat pipes out of the box ,with tons of fans nb=50-55c , sb= 44-46c , also I have the shut down set for 80c , just in case cooling fails
-lots of people report 80+c on boards out of the box as the heat pipe paste is crap, their bent and don't sit flat , so have a look at that., if you haven't

-speed fan requires offsets for correct read outs on nvidia chipsets I don't use it anymore.
