I had a a huge problem with my 9800 GX2 as it was heating up my rig and because of which my computer performed not as good as expected "I have to say i have the transparent case so that may be a factor".

As i had reported in my earlier 9800 GX2 fiasco thread the performance i wanted was not there and i had no idea how to stop the computer from heating up so much "I had added 3 Fans" so i sold it on ebay and kept my 3870 X2 but befour selling i tried to contact customer care via email and i got a call today after aout a month..

Here is how it went:- Some dude said "Hello" //to which i said Hello.

Then he said "I am a rep. of XFX international i have recived an email in concern of a recently bought 9800 graphic card." //Ya i was haveing a problem with its heat generated

"Sir, the heat generated is due to processes running inside the card itself we can not change the card due to that reason" //I know but my whole system got so hot because the heat was being pushed inside the system not outside.

"Sir, have you checked the power cables and card fan and the connections." //Yes the system was running fine just the heat problem which caused my system to shut down

"Sir in that case you should avoid playing any games as it will change the card temp." // I said thank you alot and i hung the call.

BOTTOMLINE- Dont play any games after buy a freaking graphics card totalllly great... The guy was mexican i think because he was sayin' se, se after every two words....!!!

LOL I think he might have been mocking you?

I would agree if you case build is so that your 3d card causes it to shutdown then playing no games will fix your problem.

Maybe you should not OC so much. ;)

Actrally the 9800 GX2 pushes the air in side my case not out as with my 3870 that is the reason why my med. tower got heated up and also becaus eit made up of that plastic transparent stuff... i think n' i did not overclock the card even 1 Mhz i sold it for almost wht i bought it for..!! so thats gr8

Does sound like you are the only one with this problem...so the natural conclusion would be that....

it is a known "issue" :p

NVIDIA SLi and some of their hotter running GPUs generally requires excellent case ventilation

if you don't have it - like me - then you buy AMD and stick in an Extra GPU to make up for the lack of performance. :p
