9800 AIW np OC problem

I just got a BBA Radeon 9800 AIW non-pro with 128mb Samsung memory. I overclocked it with latest version of Rage3D Tweak. I was able to change the clock speed without flashing the bios, but i could hardly overclock it without getting artifacts in my games. I could see artifacts even with a less than 10% increase in clock speed. Is 9800 AIW np really such a terrible overclocker? does flashing the bios to pro help? (i get 3DMark2003 score of 4700 on my SFF P4 533FB 2.4G with stock speed, which is still 18% better than my OC 9500Pro)

** Bump **

I would like to know the answer to this as well. Got a card much like this. Haven't done anything beyond the stock drivers (too chicken with first card beyond original 440mx)

Why not get a omega driver and soft mod it to a 9800pro and overclock it from there using the omega set up?

it could be the heat generated by the tv tuner that causes the artifacts, or could be that your core just won't go any higher. My AIW 9800 Pro will OC to aroung 415-420, but I run it stock. OC'ing varies from core to core, some go higher than others, some don't go higher at all. Try a VGA cooler if you want to dissipate more heat from the core, it might give you the headroom that you're looking for.

9800np have all of the pipelines open. you are thinking of a 9800SE

I was trying to find out on the ATI site how many pipes it has, and didn't see the info. none the less if all the pipes are already open it wouldn't really do any good to use an Omega driver then to try and softmod it or would it?
What about using the 9800 pro drivers to update the core? Is this a possibility?
Very new at the game of vid OC and don't want to make a fatal mistake on my first quality card.

thanks for the help

The omega driver switches a SE and a NP to a pro. Its just the matter if the card will do it without artifacts or not. OR if you like I can trade you my 9700pro for it since I dont game that much and I will take my chances with your card. Just dont ask me how well it overclocks because I havent done it. The most overclocking i have done was to omega soft mod my old 9500np and ocd it to see what it would do but then I just kept it at stock speeds but still soft mod. It was plenty fast for me. Besides that it is sittng in a sff with a sound card next to it so im sure its plenty warm and I dont need to make it hotter :)

And come to think of it you have yours in a sff as well so that may be why you cannot oc very well, its already hot enough.

***EDIT*** I just ran 3dmark2003 on mine and I have a Ideq 200n running a 2500+ at 3200+ with stock volts and 512 pc2700 and I got a score of 5049 and that is also stock with the 9700pro as well.
