9800 256-bit vs. 6600gt 128-bit

I'm thinking of upgrading my video card. I like the 6600GT but the one thing that concerns me is that fact that is only 128-bit while the 9800 Pro is 256-bit. I've seen a big difference between the bandwidth with previous cards. It seems like the 6600GT is the way to go. Please advise...

6600GT is the way to go out of those two. The higher mem speed of the 6600GT makes up for the bandwidth loss, at high res/AA/AF you might see it swinging back towards the 9800 pro, but at a framerate far too slow to be playable.

So it's better than the vanilla, but not as good as the Ultra...am I understanding this correctly?

It IS the vanilla, but we feel the need to denote that here... 6800 usually denotes the 6800 series and the nu is supposed to make it less confusing... 😛

Just look at the LINKy I provided where you'll see the benchmarks between 9800pro, 6600GT and 6800nu.

6800 = 6800NU = 6800 vanilla = 6800 non ultra

same exact card, people just refer to it in differant ways
