Anyone know which is faster at 4k? I don't care about the wattage I already have a 290x I am just seeing how much faster it is.

From the benchmarks I've seen, the 980 is faster. In Crossfire/SLI it may change, but for a single card, the 980 is a good bit faster.

How about TRI-SLI and TRI-FIRE as that is what interests true gamers or IQ junkies. I'm on the fence as what to buy, hunt for a cheap titan but I know that the new CF method is markedly better. How about tests with 3 cards? are there available somewhere, I'm actually more interested in 3x970 as with a bit of luck I won't pay for that upgrade at all. I'm interested first and formost in the resolution of 2560x1440 but also mildly interested in 4k because I'm thinking about buying such a monitor.

We'll need to see SLI vs. crossfire results for 4K. Single card they trade blows, but you can get 290X's for ~$100 less.

SLI still has major issues with 3 and 4 card scaling.

1 = 27.6 (FPS) = 100%
2 = 52 = 88% scaling of the first card
3rd = 62 = 20% more total, = 36% scaling of the first card
4th = 71 = 14% more total, = 32% scaling of the first card

Basically cards 3 and 4 are throwing money down the drain. I'd like to see the comparable 290x tri and quad fire since I believe they usually scale a lot better.

Posted this earlier. TPU's averaged performance of 17 games @ 4k. I think this is the largest number of games tested @4k in the reviews.

SLI (or CF) scaling in new card releases can change dramatically with driver updates. As someone who always reads the driver release notes, this is the area I notice most of the improvements which build up over time. I believe Nvidias top priority for their driver teams is single card performance for the reviews and SLI after that. But anway the numbers of 3+ GPU SLI owners is probably less than 1% so I doubt it matters in the overall scheme of things

NV have fixed their poor scaling at 4K with Maxwell. Its now faster than R290X.

But Tri SLI or Quad SLI seems broken.
