98 SHO Transmission Failure

Just like the topic says the transmission is dead .

I was planning on trading it in in the coming months to get something smaller with better gas millage, as well as something that easier to work on so this timing really sucks.

It looks like getting a rebuilt transmission installed is going to be about $1,600 at least. Is it worth getting it fixed if I'm planning to get rid of it or should I trade it in as is and use that $1,600 as down payment on a new used car?

Automotix is where I found the transmission and I was quoted about $600 worth of labor to get it installed.

How much would you get for a trade-in with a new tranny compared to as it is now? If the difference is more or less than the cost to replace, your question is answered.

Probably time to tow it to the junk yard and get a few hundred bucks out of it.

Should be cheaper than new or rebuilt.

There isn't else wrong with the car aside from the transmission, it's not a junk car. BB puts it at $2,200 trade in value at good condition which aside from the transmission I would say it is.

I found one ebay but it was pulled from a dead car and it's condition couldn't be verified.

1600$ to repair a car worth 2200$ doesn't seem worth it unless you were planning on keeping for a while.

A clean SHO will likely sell for more than that to the right buyer. There are SHO fans out there
