This one is really interesting.
I've been annoyed with Norton SystemWorks 2001 ever since I got it. I liked NSW 2000 ok, but then my virus subscription ran out and it seems they didn't have updates available anymore for my version, so ... grrrr.. to keep virus protection I had to buy a new version.
Whatever.
2001 seems to be much more aggressive. I don't know what else to think. Pretty regularly, when Disk Doctor or Speed Disk are finished, I can't just close them down. When I hit the X, they freeze and I have to reboot, sometimes two or even three times. And I have to close down everything in sight when Speed Disk runs, because it falls over if anything writes while it's working. They really seem to mud wrestle with Windows is all I can think.
HP laptop, n5470, dual boot ME (factory) and 98se (my own from OEM CD). I never use ME, just partitioned it off into a 2GB corner of the 20GB HD.
Today I closed Speed Disk and it froze and I spent the last couple of hours trying to get it beyond Safe Mode. I have Norton Rescue and PowerQuest SecondChance, and tried each one repeatedly -- but stayed stuck in Safe Mode. What did Norton do????
On a whim, as I went by the BootMagic screen once again, I thought, hey, let's go over and see if ME will boot. It too went to Safe Mode the first time, but then came back all the way the second time. I then went to 98 once more, and -- presto!! I'm up again in 98!!
What could ME have done in its journey through Safe Mode that straightened out the boot for 98????
