$98 Memorex Blu-Ray player at Walmart

My local one (Peoria, IL) had a whole stack of them. No clue on the profile version of these things but for under a $100 not sure you can really complain.

I can't find a link to the exact drive on their website. Looks to be a clearance item.

What does a higher bluray profile get me? Would a 1.1 not play certain movies made for 1.3 or something?

Very interesting. Wonder if its a good player at all. A $98 DVD player is pretty pricey nowadays but would be dirt cheap for Blu Ray which has me wondering about the quality of this one. I remember that there was a cheap Best Buy in store brand that was reported to have pretty poor image quality. I wonder how this one stacks up.

Hopefully someone with $100.00 to blow will buy one and post their impressions of it here.

Anyway, this could be a sign that Wal-Mart's about to force the price of BluRay players down to a reasonable level, just as it did to the price DVD players several years ago. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out and holding onto my money until then, because it happened pretty fast the last time IIRC.

It's $126 at my local Wallyworld. Waiting for it to hit $80 before I get it for the bedroom.

I have it. Bluray works well and dvd upconversion is quite enjoyable.

Profile 2.0 is, currently, a highly-overrated feature. I would not let the lack of said feature sway you too much.

There was the Internet deal for BR player for $98 recently. That player had also Ethernet plug. So I guess we need to wait couple months when a bunch of competing BR will be available under $100.
