I'll be buying a new computer next week. My current one has Win95 OSR2 installed, and I'll keep it (with a few minor hardware modifications), for now.
My new computer will use some new components, and some existing cards. Something like this:
ASUS CUV4X board
PIII-700
128MB
20GB disk
ASUS V6600 (GeForce AGP card)
Aureal Vortex 1 based generic sound card
Generic 56K Winmodem (PC Link, I think Conexant based)
Adaptec SCSI card (bundled with my CD-R; don't remember the exact model)
Generic networking card (I want to network the two computers)
Win95 OSR2 has been stable enough for me, but I've heard that 98 is less stable. W2k is attractive, but I'm concerned about its compatibility with the sound card and modem. Aureal is dead, and I've heard that their last W2k drivers weren't that great. And I'm unlikely to find specific drivers for the modem. As for ME, I can't buy it now anyway, but it's an option I could get later (and use 95 for now on the new computer).
What do you think?
