Intermittent problems can be much harder to find, particularly if they only happen when cruising down the road. If this can be replicated with it parked and giving it some throttle, that's what I'd try to do.

I would hook up an OBDII bluetooth or wifi dongle and get live data on a phone or tablet with Torque app while it's happening, and of course check the OBDII codes.

It may not even be the same problem, just same symptom but do describe the most detail possible if when it is/isn't happening and whether you are behind on any maintenance, the vehicle mileage, etc.

That topic mentioned a few suspects like the throttle (position sensor, or cable (mechanical) or wire/connector (electrical)) which you might see changing with live OBDII data) or clogged catalytic converter.

I had a 98 with the same indications, turned out to be the Throttle Position Sensor. It was a bit of a pain to replace, had to disconnect the injector rail and beyond that, the sensor was riveted in.

I had to do this on a old honda too. Wasnt to bad though drilled out the rivets and replaced with screws with the new TPS sensor.

Also, if you replace the TPS, be sure to orient the part where the old ended up (mark the orientation of the old). If I remember correctly, there are short slots in the housing. There's a you tube on the repair.
