So... The wife has a '98 Contour which overall has been a great car, no major problems and it has around 80,000 miles on it. After work yesterday she started it, but it died immediately. She tested a bit more, and found that if she held the gas down around 2000 RPMS it would stay alive, but after that it would die. So she called me and I drove over to take a look at things, and checked under the hood, and everything seemed normal. I told her I would adjust the idle(it has a screw) so she could at least drive home. Well, the screw was rusted and I didn't have enought tools on me to fix it, so I started to ghetto-rig it to idle more. It took me about 10 minutes to find stuff to ghetto-rig it, and during those 10 minutes I had her sitting in the car keeping it alive by holding the gas down to keep the RPMS high enough so it wouldn't die. After about 10 minutes I gave up trying to ghetto rig it and I told her to take her foot off the gas, and it stayed alive, seemed normal, and wasn't dying anymore.
This morning it started up like a charm as usual, with no problems and drove just fine. Soooooo, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas what might have happened? Did the engine skip a beat and flood a cylinder or two? No Check Engines were thrown during this entire process. Was a sensor maybe screwed up? Could it have been fuel related? Any ideas?
C/N: Wifey's car would die while idyling, so we let it warm up and it ran just fine. Started up the next day just fine like nothing had happened.
