98 boot disk doesn't load drivers for SCSI CD-ROM, and WinME isn't detected as a bootable cd...

My Win98 boot disk doesn't load drivers for my Plextor SCSI CD-ROM. The Windows Millenium CD isn't detected as a bootable cd, even though my BIOS supports booting froma CD. So what's the work around? How do I get Windows ME to install on my system? I know I'm missing something obvious....

Thanks

Modify the Win98 bootdisk and add the necessary files from your SCSI card mfg's support section to the disk. You might have to edit your autoexec as well....

I use a 29160 and I had a similar prob till I modded my bootdisk.

I guess you're upgrading w98 to SE. Easiest way is boot w98, copy the I386 directory from the cd to your hard drive, to say, "c:\i386\". Then, boot with the floppy and run setup.exe from the i386 directory. Load smartdrv.exe (it's in your c:\windows directory) before you run setup, else the file copying will take forever.

MS doesn't include drivers for anything except some old adaptec crap for the SCSI.

Lemme guess... you have a Tekram card? or is it a new Adaptec?

If its a tekram, I will email you my custom disk. Its about the best thing out there, has support for tekram scsi and Pioneer DVD-ROM/ATAPI CDROMS
