975X Chipset what memory to use?

Ok I'm looking to get either the ASUS P5W DH or the Intel 975XBX board with the 6400 core duo 2. There is so many options of memory these days........ I was looking at 800Mhz 2X1GB memory but I noticed I'm looking at $300+ and wondering how much of a performance gain I'm looking at by dropping to 667Mhz? What brands to go with and which model? Thanks Oh ya also I like to run things at stock and keeping my computer stable and able.
