9700Pro Registering as a 9800SE?

i bought a video card on ebay and it said it was a 9700Pro, but when i installed it, windows registered and installed it as a 9800SE. after downloading atitool it told me to softmod it to unlock the missing 4 pipelines so i could run as a 9800NP.

i decided to look on the internet and i found that other people are having the same problem, except their chipset is listed as r300 and mine is listed as r350, which is what the 9800Pro chipset is, isnt it? so whats going on, what card do i have!?

Well, since it unlocked I guess you came out even.

The card was not a 9700pro, it was a crippled 9800SE.
 
It definitely doesn't look like you have a 9700 Pro, but something doesn't look right about the 9800SE either.

You're showing 325 MHz core, 290 MHz memory. That's typical for a regular 9800SE 128 bit board, but according to what you've listed, you have a 256 bit version. But something has been done to it since it's showing 8x1 pixel/texture pipelines instead of the 4x1 a regular 9800SE has.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say it was flashed with a regular 9800 BIOS as the card specs you listed match it exactly. But I'm unsure it would still report the core as being a 9800SE. I would think that it would show up as a regular 9800 then.

If I were you, I'd install/run 3DMark03 and see if you get any artifacting. Run it a few times in a row to make sure. As long as it checks out, I'd say you got a card that's comparable to the 9700 Pro that was advertised.

go to adrian rojaks site and try flashing the 9800 se to a 9800 pro, see if it'll let u change the stock speeds to the speeds of a 9800 pro first, then flash the bios.
 
I know future shop has been selling AIW 9700pro that are 325/290 rather than the standard 325/310.
