Hi,

How actually do you find out exactly what kind of radeon card that you have? I didn't actually see it written on the card.

In device manager it is recognized as a 9500 Pro/9700

In Rage 3D and in Powerstrip the core clock is listed as 276.75 and the memory clock is listed as 270.00 .. this is low for the 9700 Pro.

I bought this card off of Ebat and am beginning to feel scammed, any help with this would be appreciated

Thanks

Perhaps it is for my motherboard does not support 8x AGP not sure hopeing someone can help

Am running
Asus A7n-266 MB
512 DDR stock
AMDXP 2000
WinXP SP1

item as listed on Ebay

looks like it may be a 9500 pro looking at its rates.

does it look like this: image 1
if so, then its a 9500 pro.

or does it look like this: image 2
if so, you either have a 9700 pro, or a 9500np modded into a 9700 pro (Which may be the case because of the clock rates.)

Here is what I got from the part number

RADEON 9700 128MB VGA DVI-I TVOUT - AIB 11394227100 1029422710

looks like a non-pro 9700 to me

but isn't the core and memory clock speeds of the non pro 9700 325mhz?

Why would mine be lower?

right now with the stock setting I get allot of artifacts in 3d mark03 and even during intense times while playing Black Hawk Down

If I up the core and clock speeds computer hangs.

I have the latest catalysts drivers etc from ATI

Oh and it looks like Image #2 azntiger

Stock clocks of 9700 non-pro are 275/270 and the 9700 pro is 325/310. You don'thave a 9700 pro, that's for sure.
Run 3DMark 2001 and tell us your fill rate. If its around 1000 then its a 9500 pro and if its 2000 or so its a 9700.

Edit: You shouldn't be getting any artifacts whatsoever. I would return the card and get my money back. And make him pay for return shipping because you got scammed. Also don't just leave negative feedback, report the scam to Ebay.

Netguysc, I have a 9500 PRO and its default clock is 275/275. I dont think 9700 PRO 's are clocked that low.

Also I think this is what happened to you; in order to OC a 9500 pro you have to flash the cards bios with a cracked one, and when you do that the card will then be -recognized- as a 9700 PRO, which is what my card is being listed as now in device manager and everywhere else, though of course its not a 9700 [no 256 bus] its just a unlocked 9500 pro.

So yes i think you were hustled, its very very possible considering that bios flashing a 9500 pro will tell you its a 9700 pro.

give me your 3dmark 2003 scores and ill compare them to mine.

Its not just clock speed you have to compare. You've got architectural differences to consider as well.

I have a 9700 Pro and what you have is not a 9700 pro. You seem to have the 9700 non-pro.

Run 3DMark 2001SE and 2003, then we'll tell you what you got. Make sure to list the rest of the components in your computer as well.

Quote from eBay add:

This is a used once [tested] ATI Radeon 9700 PRO AGP dvi/tv-out video card. This video card runs perfect! It has samsung memory chipset! Reserve is low.
Used once/tested? More possibly like "Took soft mod, Now passing it off" Is how I see it. Who the hell uses a 9700pro once and then sells it? I would have beaten that thing sensless with games before deciding to sell it. Even then, C'mon, Why would you sell one of the best cards out there? Note in that guys feedback that he has sold other 9700 as well. Sounds funky to me.
NetGuySC: Given the fact that you got the card for $220, That is still not bad price for any 9700 pro or not. Could have been a lot worse.

Here are my stats

A7N-266 VM
512 meg 2100
XP2000 cpu
WinXP Pro
DVD writer, CD writer
3 hard drives =280GB
330w generic power supply
19" monitor at 1280 x 1024

I disconnected the DVD and CD, and a 160gb hard drive before I ren the 3DMark03

3DMark03 score after clean install with latest catylyst driver = 3993. This was with the stock setting on 3dmark. My highest score ever was 5015 but do not remember what i did to achieve that.

I was thinking that if I loaded directx 8.1 .. restart then load directx 9 that i would be able to run the 3D Mark 2001 SE but I was unable to. I reguested directx 8.1 so no test scores on 2001 SE

I wrote the seller already requesting a refund.

If no satisfaction from seller, I will start with Paypal and go from there. I charged this to a PayPal credit card while using Paypal as a payment medium. This should be interesting

Thanks everyone for your input

You can get a new 9700np for $195, so $220 would not be that great.

To fix the 3DMark2001 problem reinstall DX9. That 03 score seems a bit low to me.

Is there anything that I should change in the catylyst driver control panel. Something just isnt right.

Right there in bottom right of screen where the little icons are (dammit i just cant remember what that is called) well when I went to the ati icon .. the list of different screen resolutions came up ... well they have been there for 15 minutes and won't go away.
something is amiss

I reinstalled dx9 and still a no go on 2001 se

It's a 9700np. Why don't you do the obvious things like run a few benchmarks and tell us what scores you get, that's always a sure fire way to know which card you have. And yes, if the card is supposed to be a 9700PRO, you have indeed been scammed. Sorry.

EDIT - Send the card back to him, you paid a lot of money for something that wasn't a 9700 PRO and he is guilty of false advertising and a few other things that can get you into trouble on Ebay. For the same money you can get a far better card, and one that isn't second-hand too. Get in contact with him and assert your rights before it's too late...:(
