Definitely a 6600. It is newer, and is a bettter overclocker. Plus, nVidia is much better than ATi. ATi SUCKS!

someone obviously has a new flamesuit they want to break in 😀

Well for once i'm not biting 😉

I remember saying the exact same thing in the "soft-modded 6200 vs 9700 pro" arguement. The nVidia card has a newer feature set, but guess what!? The 9700 pro is still faster 🙂

my 6600 non gt gets 3205 in 3dmark 05 lets see a 9700 pro get that

and 3dmark 05 is dx9 and we all know nvidia is better at open gl

so i KNOW 6600 OWNZ 9700 PRO

my 6600 is at 525/700 (easy)

dude plzz....no fanboy sh*t here!!! we are not comparing which company is better just whether he should get a 6600 or a 9700Pro.
i would anyday go for the $128 9800pro although i would still look for a used 9800Pro under $100 which should be a killer deal. depends on u though whether u want new or a used one for a much lower price.

Don't forget, you can overclock a 9700 as well. I have had a 9700 non-pro and it would go all the way up to 370mhz core with stock cooling. With a additional fan blowing on the card i got it over 380mhz(9800 pro speed). So the 9700 will definitely be the faster one, so that's what i would go for. Or even better, a used 9800. O yeah and stop comparing 3dmark scores, the performance in real games is very different.

In my backup machine running an XP2000 Palomino, I have got a Leadtek 6200 softmodded into a 6600. Running at 400/600, I get around 5500 in 3dm03. I had a 9700np about 6 mos ago, but I can't remember what it benchmarked to.

9700's 256bit mem bus will almost certainly put it a head in most things

ur right, expecially with driver support. but what moron on crack would say that a 6600 gt is better than any 9800 pro? thats ridiculous, but a reg 6600 might be rivaled by a 9800 pro a lot. if anyonee thinks about getting a 6600, get a gt. its alot better and cheap.
