9700pro or 6600?

I have about $100 to buy a new or used video card (AGP) and i've never seen any comparative reviews of either a 9700pro and 6600(non GT). does anyone know whick is faster stock and oced(average oc), also how much slower is the non pro 9700 vs the 9700pro?

9700pro one can compare to a 9800pro. Since the 6600 vanilla competes decently well with the 9600pro, and the 9800pro blows the 9600 out of the water, you can only assume that the 9700pro will do the same. 🙂

At stock speeds a 9700p is faster than a 6600.
If you're gonna OC, the 6600 will probably come out faster, but dont quote me on that.

In my backup machine running an XP2000 Palomino, I have got a Leadtek 6200 softmodded into a 6600. Running at 400/600, I get around 5500 in 3dm03. I had a 9700np about 6 mos ago, but I can't remember what it benchmarked to.

I'll tell you that an OCed 6600 can get ~3100 on 3dmark05, and a 9800pro can get ~2500...i'm not sure how fast a 9700 is compared to a 9800pro, but i will tell you that a 6600 is definately faster than a 9700. PLUS it has shader model 3.0 (newer hardware needed for next gen games) that you'll want.

so get a 6600.

2842 - 9700pro - 3dM05

My card is not stock ...

Just to let others know the 9700pro has higher performance possibilities.
(than what others THINK the limits of the card are .. )

My card is ranked 4th at Futuremark for any processor using the 9700pro.
The only cards with higher marks are H2O cooled.

There are only six 3dM05 scores above 3100 for a 6600.

Good luck trying to get a 6600 to run the newer games with sm3.

I dont have 3dm05, but on 03, I got 4400 with my 6600 running w/ axp 2000. 4820 same card running in my A64 3200+ box.

alright, i've got it.
9700pro faster stock
6600 fastr oced.
now i just gotta find a used 6600 that is guranteed to oc to 500/625

LOL !!!

Good Luck ...

If you looked ... there are only 7 scores above 500mhz

only 7 scores above 500 ... and you think they did it on air ...?

(let alone finding a gaurantee ... lol)
You may be setting yourself up for dissapointment ...

I know of tons for disappointed OCer's that never reach their desired OC.

Quake 4? Look for a 6600 to OC the heck out of. Otherwise, at stock speeds, a 9700P should, as BFG said, tool the 6600, especially with AA+AF.

how fast do I need to oc the 6600 to meet 9700pro speeds?
That ain't gonna happen given the 9700 has more than double the memory bandwidth of a 6600. You can quote 3Dmark scores but in actual games you'll usually find the 9700 will be faster.

uh that is a vtd128. it's oced to 400/800 not anywhere near 300/500. anyway, i dont play with aa(dont care much about jaggies, having done most of my playing on a rage pro turbo 8mb for a while now) but af is pretty important(hate blurry textures).

i plan to play quake 4 and hl2 so which is the better compromise?
