9700PRO Issue

Hello All =)

I have a generic 9700Pro, and lately while playing World of Warcraft at one random time the screen will go black for a few seconds, and then reappear to the desktop with an error. The error says something like "The VGA was not responding, control panel has reset it". Not sure how exact that is, but its close.

This has happend twice. I updated the drivers 2 days ago, but i forget if the error happend before or after i installed new controlpanel/drivers off ATI site.

About a month ago my fan on the card was going out, so i replaced with a vantec, removing the shin and everything. Everything has been alrighrt except for this (and another thing, but will make a seperate thread sometime).

Any idea on whats going on?

Hmm, try reconnecting that fan, maybe its loose. Also, just try rolling back the drivers, it shouldn't hurt.

I used to have a 9800 Pro that did that, But I had a underpowered psu.....I know the 9800's dont have a power connector, but it still did, replaced and it was fine. What psu do you have?

Cevilgenius - Will do 🙂

x80064 - Its a Raidmax 420W PSU that came with the case.

Heres where Im stumped. Whenever i replaced the fan on the video card, and booted computer everything was smooth. One day while booting up i noticed that it said "CPU Speed: 1100mhz". I know thats not right, as its an 2500XP+ That runs at 1.8ghz. So i changed the FSB back to normal. When i would open any game, i would hear a loud noise from the video card. I was told that changing the fsb of the CPU maybe have changed the fan speed of videocard or overclocked it? So i set the speed back to 1100mhz.

Thanks for your replies 🙂

Heres ATI's email..

Greetings!

Hey,

Not sure how i can explain, havent heard it in awile (set fsb back so its 1100mhz). Ill try it later today and let you know.

I rolledback drivers and still got screen issue

The FSB will have no effect on GPU fan speed ,lol ,if the FSB is set to non standard speeds on certain chipsets the AGP bus is also overclocked ,that could cause problems.
However your XP2500 (& 9700) should be fine at its default FSB

Have you actually looked to see if the fan is still turning?
