I have

2.8Ghz@3Ghz with 800Mhz fsb
MSI Neo2-FIS2R 865PE
corsair TWINX1024-3200LL

I wanna know if 9700pro will be the bottleneck of my system? Everyone knows that 9800pro is better but I cant afford it right know, but I will endure the pain of waiting to get money for it IF 9700pro will become the bottleneck of my system.

Anyone got any knowledge about this?

The 9700 Pro will fly through any game you play. Its only like 10% less performance than 9800 Pro.

Maybe you should consider the 9800 non-pro. It costs slightly less than the 9700pro and it's rated at 325/290 vs. the 9700 pro's 325/310. Plus, it seems like some of the 9800np's come with 2.8ns ram which would let it clock higher than the 9700 pro. Plus, the R350 series seems to have fixed some hardware incompatibility problems that some people have with the R300 series.

I just bought the mainboard, cpu and memory for almost all i had thinking my ti4600 was fine and......it wasnt, in fact it was completely broke, so i was left with not being able to use my system or buying a crappy card to get the comp. running till i got the money for a good video card. I bought the best card my money could deliver a gf4 mx440....:p well that was the situation.....that didnt felt good. Anyway I will get some money soon. I hope 9700pro will be enough to enjoy all the fancy graphics and run at decent framerates in games like SWG, HL2 and Doom3. That, except for swg, the public i guess doesnt know exactly.

The problem with the price of 9800pro is that I also need a new harddisk and a cd-burner. I own 2 harddisks, an old 6gigs and a western digital 40g but somehow the 40g seems broken along with my ti4600 so i'm left with only 6g, and have problems obviously. Then i'm gonna buy some fan for about 30 dollars so i can clock my cpu to maybe 3,4Ghz.

9700pro seems to be the right choice for me.:Q

well thats up to the vid card....I know my mx card is (running games at 1024*768....dont wanna go lower). I'm thinking 9800 non pro maybe has about the same price tag as 9700pro so I gotta check that out

I dont know about usa but here in sweden i cant find 9800np only pro. guess i'm going for 9700pro then. Which 9700pro card is the best and type in why also. Hightech excalibur the same as the rest? only found that card from the place where i ordered the rest of my hardware.

LOL. Yes, any of the current video cards will be the bottleneck for any graphics intensive application, but you'll still get great performance. I run all my games (most intensive is UT2k3) at full resolution and all bells/whistles @ 1280X1024 (LCD native res.). You'd earn some bragging rights in 3dMark, but still... It seems our systems are similar HW speeds, if you're not looking for the multimedia aspect of an AIW I'd recommend the 9800NP also, but you could probably find a cheap 9700 from an on-line vendor. If you go the 9700 route, I recommend buying it new to avoid the early HW version probs.

Buy one of these.

9500 L shaped that will probably allow you to Mod and OC. I got one for $138.00 and it is currently running at 9700 speeds. haven't OC'd it yet just modded it.

Whats modded? Then think about you should be able to overclock and mod a 9800 aswell so that it performs like an imaginary 10800...no?

no, it doesn't work like that.

the 9500 non pro was basically a 9700 pro with some modification to limit it to 9500 non pro speeds. a mod in the drivers sets it so that it can use all the 9700pro features. this is not true of the 9800 pro.

anyway, it's your money, spend it as you please.

The 9800np, is actually slower than a 9700pro.
I remember seeing a TH article a while back, and the point at which the 9700pro becomes the bottle neck in the system, is when the CPU is running at 4.2ghz. This was on a OCd P4, cooled using a Asetek VapoChill.
