9700 unusually slow

So i fired up some gamming with my laptop since im piecing out my desktop pc.. I start up some old school Quake 2.. check the FPS and i cant seem to get anything higher than 60fps at 1024 resolution, to me that sounds absurd i used to get more with a TNT2.. i have all AA off and V_sync off.. does anyone by chance have any idea on why my FPS would be so low in games with a mobile 9700 on a dell inspirion 9100? thanks
 
if it stayed constant.. in heavy play it will drop to 30.. i figured it out though.. got some new drivers and reinstalled chipset drivers.. now i hit 800 fps
