9700 tx (Dell) & Gaming Problems

I got the Dell 8250 deal from last November and paid to upgrade to the Radeon 9700 tx card.

So far I have three games that refuse to work with it and it's really p*ssing me off. I bought this PC to be my gaming rig and it's failing big time, not sure what to do except a complete reformat/reinstall:

Links 2001 w/latest patch: Blocky screwed up graphics
GTA III: Can't change resolution properly in setup, game runs slow and stutters
Unreal Tournament: Fatal error as soon as game is launched, tried all video modes.

Other system specs:

P4 2.4, 512MB RDRAM, DirectX 9.0a, Display driver 6.14.01.6307 (latest), Windows XP Pro w/SP1

Games that do work:

Rallisport Challenge, RTCW, Colin McRae Rally 2.0 and others.

You guys have any ideas on things I can try?

Thanks in advance.

I had a bit of a problem then I got the 3.2 cat drivers and it's all good now.

First thing you should try is run 3dmark2001se and 3dmark2003 and see how your rig stacks up, use those two benchmarks as tools to see if there is a problem.

not to change the subject but I have been thinking of ordering a dell (refurbished) 4550 or a 8250 with the 9700 TX card
1)so how does the 9700 TX perform in games that it works with?
2) what is the difference between the 9700 pro and the 9700 TX?

Why would you do that? They just had the special for the 4550 starting at $350ish AR and the card was $110 more.

Budmantom,

I ran 3DMark 2003 and got a score of 4018, it ran all tests without any graphical problems.

I had a problem in Rallisport with the display stuttering, upgrading to the latest video driver took care of that but I have had problems with GTA III all along. I installed Links and UT after the new video driver was installed so can't say if they would have worked with an older driver.

You are conflicting with your initial post now. What worked, and what didn't work?

Ok with UT you have to disable AA and AF (at least I did), turn A to 2 and AF to 2 and make them application specific (I think thats what it's called). Then try the game again, that worked for me.

Your 3dmark looks good I got abot 4100. Try 3dmark 2001se you should be at about 13,xxx.

I don't see how I am conflicting with my original post!?! Just to confirm:

Works:

Rallisport (after driver upgrade)
RTCW
Colin McRae 2.0

Does not work:

Links 2001 (installed after driver upgrade)
GTA III (never worked)
UT (installed after driver upgrade)

Thanks

Forgot to mention, I tried to run 3DMark 2001 but it would not install as I have DirectX 9, maybe I have an old version of it? Does 3DMark 2001se run on DirectX 9?
