9700 released: when do nvidia prices start dropping?

Okay, the ATI 9700 is out. When do GF4 prices start dropping? I want to pick up a ti4200 128M soon, but naturally want to pay as little as possible.

The price of the ti4200 cards won't fall until ATI brings out their 9500 card. The 9700 doesn't compete in the mid-end of the market, just the high-end. If you were looking to buy a ti4600 it would be a different story. I would expect them to start to really drop in price in about a week or so. Also, if you're going to wait until the 9500 comes out (2 months or so), you might as well just get that instead. It will be a crippled 9700, but from what I can read out of the specs it will still be able to beat a ti4600.

🙂 Well we see prices about so:

GF4TI4200 $130-150
GF4TI4400 $190
GF4TI4600 $250

😀 Prices have already dropped and they are only likely to shift when NV18, NV28 and NV30 come out. Rad9700 is $400 and as such 60% pricier than GF4TI4600 and you 'only' get 30-50% more pure 3D perf (more with AA and Aniso). The Rad9000/pro is designed to do business with GF4MX cards, something it does very well and is under $100. Even if ATI do release Rad9500 IMHO it will be aimed around $200 but ATI will wait for NV28 before making their move. Anyway, both ATI and nVidia will want to keep a p[rice premium on their top DX9 cards for as long as possible to rake in the development costs etc.

😉 Anybody have any actual links to Rad9700 cards ready to buy? $375 sounded a bit low to me, unless we're talking non-ATI or oem which are well-reknown for low clocks and poorer speed.

You won't save much more on the 4200 until the 9500 comes out, and even then it might only be a $10 drop. Considering the 9500 is supposed to follow the 9700 by a month (last I heard) and the 9700 is about a month away from consumer's hands, I'd pick up the 4200 now. That is, if you're set on the 4200. I'm interested to see what shakes out with the 9500. Anyway, why wait? $130 shipped for the 4200...
