9700 Pro - what drivers?

Today I put together a new system with a OC Systems 9700 Pro Level II. Since I've been on NVidia boat for years I don't know what are the newest drivers for ATI. (I'm not even trying to install the drivers tha came with the card, they are probably old anyway). Any pointers?

the latest catalyst drivers are version 3.2

this version fixed a lot of problems in games, such as bugs and stuttering, and gave some performance increases.

however, this version also messed up support for half-life games! this includes counter-strike and team fortress

so i'm sticking with drivers 3.1 until 3.3 comes out, which is rumored to enhance the 9700's performance by a lot!

u might want to check out omega drivers too, some people swear by those...

Is this on a clean install or is a system that had an nVidia card in it previously? If it isn't a clean install, get Detontator Destroyer or do a clean install of the system. Many people have problems when just uninstalling an nVidia card and throwing in the ATI card. Make sure to check out the forums at Rage3D if you have any questions about how to properly uninstall old ATI drivers, install new ones, etc.

The 3.2's are your best bet unless you play a lot of CS or HL!

What's the problem with the 3.2's and HL? I just ordered a 9700 Pro retail and I still play a good bit of TFC, should I go with the 3.1 drivers?

I'd stick with the 3.1 drivers for the time being. The HL issue in 3.2 is a pain. The 3.3s should fix it. Hopefully, they're release the new 3.3s in a few weeks. 🙂

Only prob I know of with the 3.2's is if you hit the esc key it locks up your system. I just got the 9500 pro and works great with the 3.1 drivers.

As for Omega drivers people say they are better for gaming cause he makes them to be more game specific over benchmarks
