i get these little, tight, faint lines that cascade downward over my screen ( primary monitor, not the secondary... thats clear ) at a high rate of speed. i can see it really good in a dark-ish grey background situation. i dont really notice it all the time at all, but i know this probably shouldnt be happening ... :p

i have a 19" trinitron ( dead flat :D ) that came with the last computer i bought ( micron ), about 3 years ago

it doesnt happen @ 75Hz refresh ( i am @ 85Hz ), but i cant deal with the flicker

im not OCing anything right now, all @ defaults, as a test... same prob

i had a similar prob @ work... but when i moved my monitors farther apart, it stopped... not the case here...

i think thats it... i cant figure it out. tia

Yep- rolling bar problem. Lots and lots of people have this, including me, and it's driving me nuts. ATI has had this problem for almost 3yrs now, and won't fix it, let alone acknoledge the problem.

Not much you can do. Go to Rage3D.com and look in the 9700 support forum. You'll plenty of posts on it.

Me? Well, If the next gen ATI cards don't fix this I'm going nVidia.

I have this same problem too, and its pretty bad, to save you some time one quick fix (that MIGHT work) is to plug into your DVI output instead of your VGA output. it worked for me but I'm still not happy about it because the DVI out is kinda quirky and I dont think the picture quality is as good. when ever you click on yoru video properties the screen flickers and goes black for a second.

Overall my new 9500 Pro is a wonderfully fast card. For the money its a great value for 3d performance, But I'm still bitter about these problems I am having that I havent had at all for the last 3 years of nividia rule at my house. I've already gotten quite a few "I told you so's from my friends" I still enjoy the speed of this card but next product cycle for me will probably a DX9 nvidia part.

I am running through the DVI/VGA adapter to my HDTV, and let me tell you- it's a poor way to watch a DVD. Dancing lines all over the screen- annoying as hell.

I hope the 5600 has full MPEG2 decoding- if nVidia offers that, it's bye, bye ATI.

You're preaching to the choir in this thread.

It's not a driver issue anyways.

i got a geforce ti4600 at first... then couldnt stand it anymore and RMAed that bad larry and bought the 9700 pro, knowing that i had NEVER had good luck w/ati drivers, blah blah blah... but it IS the best, and fastest card out there ( i think for over a year now, amazing! )... other than some fast writes probs ( thats a known issue with my mobo and/or chipset tho :( ) and this rolling bar thinggy, ive had a great ride with this card!!

... to save you some time one quick fix (that MIGHT work) is to plug into your DVI output instead of your VGA output.

i have 2 monitors... as stated in first post... but like you said, the 2nd monitor, plugged into the dvi, is line-free. maybe i'll switch the 2 if it bothers me or new drivers dont fix this ( yeah right :D )....

thanks for the replies

This was my solution and it worked for me, I had flickering before doing this.

*desktop right click, properties
*Setting tap and goto advanced
*Under advanced go to display now you will see 4 monitor types
*Choose Monitor set it to the maximum refresh rate and resolution your monitor supports
*Now go to monitor and set your desired refresh rate. Apply, and see if flickering is gone.

2nd way if first doesn'twork
*follow steps until display property, choose monitor and set it at 75 with 1024x768
*Now set your monitor refresh rate to 75hertz and your monitor res to 1024x768

or

*set your display property to what you desire
*then set your resolution and refresh rate to exactly the same thing as you did in ATi control panel's display.

GL hope they work, works fine for me.

"but i thought people were saying ati drivers were now better than nvidias. how can people be having problems "

Pay no attention to all those people that have this problem! (myself included when I used my 9700Pro on a 19" Sony) They CLEARLY have not read all the posts in which the 9500/9700Pro are declared the best cards available, period, and that they have made all nvidia based cards obsolete. Fools! You have DX9 and are thus more future proof! You have superior AA/AF performance! You have quiet gpu fans!
Yet you whine and moan about gray bars rolling through your desktop, as if that could POSSIBLY affect your enjoyment of these PERFECT cards! For shame.
