Looking at benchmarks, neither the (vaporware) X700XT nor the 6600GT (both 128-bit) are slower than the 9800P/XT (256-bit) with AA or AF. I was a bit surprised by this, too, but the X700's higher clocks seem to compensate well for their lower theoretical bandwidth.
Edit: Some benches
here. I think looking at Call of Duty and Far Cry AA+AF benches will give you a good range (OGL Q3-era engine vs. D3D shader-heavy engine). I'm sure TechReport's, Anandtech's, and everyone else's reviews will show the same thing.
Rialto is apparently
working, so we may see AGP X700Ps sometime this year.

P) Not sure how soon regular X700s will follow, if at all.
