9700 Pro vs. 9800 np

I currently have a 9700 Pro o/c 364/344. I benchmarked 3DMark2001 with the latest omega drivers at 18,179. I was thinking of selling the 9700 Pro to get a 9800np and flash bios to the pro. Will I notice any improvement to 9700 pro, or is it not worth it??

System:
1.83 AMD o/c 2.3 (210 x 11)
Asus A7N8X rev. 2
Cosair PC 3200 Twin X 2 x 256LL
Radeon 9700 Pro (o/c 364/344)
Antec 380W truepower
Alpha PAL8045U Heatsink

i doubt it would be worth the trouble for the minor speed increase, i wouldnt do it myself, but im not the kinda guy who buys top of the line parts when they come out so i can get another 6 or 10% speed increase

I was running on a 9700pro and now im on a 9800pro ( well..when you can pay only 25$ and give your 9700 for a 9800 like a did..why not ) the only real difference i see for curent games is that i can use AA8x insted of 4x in all my game an d get the same fps.

are there any differences btw the two cards besides an increased core/memory clock?

by the way, in reference to your question, the price to performance ratio IMHO doesn't justify the upgrade. i would just OC the 9700pro.

there are some other differences in the architecture, i dont remeber off the top of my mind though

Welcome to the AT Forums.

To answer your question, it's not worth it to sell what you have now to get a vanilla 9800.

The performance is virtually the same for both cards.

Here's a review from FS here.

In order to get an ATI 9800 capable of ATI 9800 Pro speeds, you'd have to get the non Pro version that has Samsung 2.8ns bga ram. This applies to the ATI version (ie not FIC, Sapphire, etc.) I bought my NP version from Best Buy and got the Infineon 3.0ns version which isn't good for modding.

It's still a great card but it's pretty much luck of the draw to get the version with the right memory.

If you got $$ like that then enjoy. For us regular ham-n-eggers there is not enought bang for the additional outlay. I will not trade my 9700PRO in for a couple of generations at least.
