I just got a 9700 Pro and when I used ATI Tool to see the clock rates.. they were 324/290 when they are SUPPOSE to be 325/310. If I was sold a Radeon 9700 Pro (Advertised as 325/310) and it isn't that way, well.. then I guess they will atleast hear from me on Monday, but other than that, is it safe to overclock to what the speeds are suppose to be?

Yes, it is supposed to be 325/310. OC it to 325/310, and play some games, and run a few 3dmarks. If it doesnt crash, then it is just fine and I would let it be, but if it crashes, send it back and tell them you paid for a 9700 pro and did not get one.

is it a real ATi made card or one of their vendors powercolor or whatever?

i remember powercolor's 9700 or 9800 "pro" being considerably lower than sapphire and ATi's cards.

Those sound like 9800 speeds. You sure you got a 9700P and not a 9800?

Yeah 9700 Pro. The box has Radeon Series on it, ATi POWERED BY at the top right.

On the top, it has all these different models.. and ATI Radeon 9700 Pro is marked in, and 128MB also.

There is a barcode on the side that says:

ATI 9700Pro 128M DDR Vga Card
||| || |||| \||\ \ \|\ \| \ | | <--- the barcode stuff
HYR97 128MB 1009031

I will try overclocking.. and run some tests.. see what happens.

Just ran 3dMark03 with it on default speeds. My processor is Athlon XP 2000+ and 768MB of PC2700 ram.

My score is 4204. I don't know the average scores for Radeon 9700 Pro's, but I will try to find. I have an Athlon 64 2800+ and just waiting on the motherboard.

Just set my memory to 310 and got 4288, it didn't do much there, but I figure with my new processor, I might can see a difference.

Play as much 3dgames as you can with it clocked at 9700 pro speeds. Put as much stress on it as you can to reveal any stability problems when its clocked at pro speeds. If it passes your tests, then you have a full fleged 9700 pro. Run 3dmark 05, that is a more recent bench, and is more gpu limited then the other 3dmarks.

Well, I downloaded 3dmark05 and wow the artifacts were terrible, or atleast that it what i thought it was, on default and overclocked... I then decided to install the Omega drivers (I think I had one of the oollld catalyst drivers installed) and it fixed that up fine. I quit the benchmarks and I am going to try 3dmark03 again to see what happens to the score. I will do the 05 benchmark tomorrow probably.

3dmark03 with Omega drivers:

My circuit board is red... I ran 3dmark03 with 324/310 instead of 324/290, and the score only went up 100 pts. I will get better results when I put my processor in, just waiting on the mobo.
