9700 Pro or 9800 Pro?

I can get a 9700 Pro on newegg for $215 or I can get a 9800 Pro for $268, I know the 9800 Pro is faster, but how much of a performance difference is there between these two cards. OR should I just wait and get a R420 😀.

Everyone says "Hold on until the new cards come out", and when they finnally do arrive, then the comment changes to "Hold on until it drops in price in a couple of months". It drops in price and then we all return to the first comment, and it starts all over again.

Go with the 9800PRO now, its a great card, and will continue to be a great card after the R420 arrives. I have a 9700PRO and will probably not need to update for at least one more generation if not longer, and I really do not see any of the soon to arrive games producing a slide show or anything near that on my system. Enjoy the 9800PRO while its still one of the top cards. It will give you a long life.

I am really wanting that R420, but then what Robcy said, made me consider AGAIN. How much do you think the R420 will go for?

EDIT: *oops* I just posted under my friends account. Sorry mods.

$500? 😉

:Q

EXPENSIVE. That's how much the 9800 Pro was though, right? Or was it $400...

I think I am going to wait for the R420 to come out and see how well it does. I wanna' see if it really is "twice" as fast as the 9800 series. 🙂 I would get a 9800 Pro right now, but I want a card that will last me a LOOOOOOOONG time, because I can't afford a $300 card every year, so may as well spend $500 and have one that lasts what, 3+ years?

9800pro. its fast as hell. it will play all the next games coming out.

JB

its about 10% faster than a 9700 pro but the difference in price is more than 10%

who cares about that. id rather have the faster of the 2 cards than save a couple bucks. its not double the price or anything.

if your gonna have the card for a while, why get the slower one.

There is no way I would pay $400+ for a video card, even when I have had the $$ to burn. The sweet spot has always been the $200-$250, you get 85%-90% the performance of the top cards for 55%-60% the cost. In a few months your top card will be in the sweet spot anyways. I got really lucky with my 9700PRO, and actually got it for $200 (50% off) a week after it was released, now that I can go for, and its been a wonderful buy, its 17 months old and still a top level card 🙂.

I do not get the "let me wait" so that I can spend 200%+ more for 20% to 25% rise in performance.

Yes, I studied accounting.

EDIT: :Q JB nice 3dmark 03 scores.

not very specific, but its simply "alot"

DANG YOU ROBCY! 😉 lol I am really lost now, I don't know what to do...so you think I should get a 9800/9700 Pro then?

I think you should get a girl friend ! and dont worry about the videocards.
and if you already have a g/f dump her and get a new one! upgrading your g/f to a faster newer model!

I would say, yes. The 9800PRO is a great card, and one that will last you quite a while. I am biased of coarse because I am not even thinking of replacing my 9700PRO unless it burns. I do not even overclock it at all 🙂

SirDude, if you got the money, get the 9800. if you really could use it somwehre else, get the 9700.

its like a $50 difference on pricewatch.

a lot of people care about price/performance ratio, inwhich case the 9700 pro is better

Get a Geforce4mx 🙂 boomshakalaka Powerhouse 8000 super monster inhalator 4000

It will blow away a 9800 Pro and anything else in its way
