9700 pro fps help

When I play Counter-Strike my FPS will somtimes drop down to as low as 15. NOw this happens at any given time, not just when there is movement. It will stay down for about 5sec then go back up. I've tried both the 3.1 and 3.2 Cats, and I'm running at total stock. Any ideas? I never had these problems with my Geforce4 in the same setup.

turning off just trueform should do the trick, the rest is nice for image quality and should not slow down an old game like cs. it may well be that old nvidia drivers are still in the system and messing things up though.

I will have to try that, thanx guys ya I'm running it in OpenGL, but I'll have to turn off Trueform. Let me say sorry before I ask this newbie question, but if I turn off V-Sync won't I get tearing? And if it is the old drivers, what's a good program to make sure that the old nVidia drivers are gone for good?

yes if you turn of vsync you will get tearing. as for a program to get rid of the old drivers; there is something called detonator destroyer, but it doesn't work for xp. the sure fire way to make it work right is to ditch your windows install and start from scratch, or you you can just try and manualy regedit out all traces if nvidia, or deleate the enum section of the registry makeing the computer redetect all hardware.
