9700 Pro Drivers - Best?

Ok this is my first post...just wanted to say hey to everybody.

I have a question concering my ATI 9700 Pro. I am using the newest drivers from ATI, but I've heard that older versions often provide better performance. Anybody know which are the best set to use?

I also had a question about over-clocking...i'm currently running around 350/350...anything higher and i get artifacts. Do some of the cooling systems on the market really make that much of a difference? Thanks I appreciate any help.

Check out omega drivers. Some people find better performance with them. I changed my cooling to a Zalman heatpipe with this fan and bracket and my temps did go down. I mainly got it for the quiet though, as the fan on my 9700pro was driving me nuts. I only run the fan when I am gaming, so at other times a totally silent solution. Still most reccomend the artic cooler (which I have not tried). Enjoy your new card.

Thanks, I was actually looking at the Zalman before hand. The reason I ask about the drivers is because I've noticed a drop in framerates in counter-strike...which with my pc should never happen. I had heard that a few people had this happen as well after updating to the newest ati drivers.

IMO, always use the latest drivers, because who wants a game that is slightly faster, but crashing all the time? I dont mind losing a little speed for stability.

I am using the most up to date drivers from ATI, but my fps dropping to 50-60 at 800 x 600 is unacceptable especially considering my specs....and counter-strike isn't exactly the newest of games. It's quite odd because my framerates are awesome in halo, medal of honor, and other more hardware intensive games. I just don't get it.

my son has cs capped at 100fps and never drops below at 1064 x 768. Try one of those gaming forums.

No problems with 3.10's so far. Sapphire 9700np. Have not tried Call of Duty yet but 3.10's are supposed to fix the VPU recovery error known to happen with Call of Duty. Will let you know.
