9700 pro + dell 2001fp = ??

Hey guys,

I've been reading reading reading and have come to the decision that since i saw my friend's 2001fp in action that i just can't compromise on my next screen. I think i'm gonna go all out.

I'm currently using a dropped 19" crt that has as crack and a huge green off color mess in the corner so I'm ordering a new display. and it's killing me so i want to do it soon.

This is my question...the 2001fp has a native resolution of 1600x1200. I'm worried that my 9700 pro won't power games well enough (read: doom 3 and/or hl2?? ) to play them at that res...i don't mind at all playing games at 1024 or even lower, i'd rather have it be speedy, but will they look like complete balls on my beautiful new display or does it resize ok? How about counter-strike? (which i could easily run at 1600)

anyone with this setup that can assure me or help me to realize the sad truth please let me know!

also...anyone have any info on upcoming sales with dell? or good coupons floating around right now? couldn't find anything in the "hot deals" section...

thanks!

chris

Well, 800x600 is 4 screen pixels to 1 res pixel, so they'll look okay at 800x600 😛

Keep an eye on the Hot Deals forum and FiringSquad deals and be patient. I see 2001FP deals with reasonable frequency.

I dunno, as my only experience is with the 2001FPs we use at work that all run 1600x1200, just saying that theoretically 800x600 should be perfect.

Dont worry too much about the image quality deteriorating too much when you run the monitor out of its optimal 1600x1200 resolution -- it still looks very good. The 2001FP uses one of the Genesis chips in it to handle the scaling. I have 2 of these on my desk now and do run some games in 1024x768 without noticing a huge difference.

i have a 2001fp and, IN GAMES, non native resolutions look fine to me. For normal use it doesnt look good enough though

I think this is a myth. Can anyone confirm that the sharpness on the 2001fp is the same at 800x600?

I remember reading a review that said 800x600 did not look any sharper than other non-native resolutions. Don't remember where I read it.

The 2001FP is great at non native resolutions. Don't worry about it. I play almost all my games below 1600x1200. Well multiplayer ones anyways. Of course single I bump it back up though.
