9700 Pro Anti Aliasing Not Working?!

I'll start with specs:

AMD Barton XP 2500+ @ 1.83GHz
512 MB DDR PC3200
80GB Western Digital 7200 RPM 8 MB CACHE
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB 8X AGP
Asus A7N8X Motherboard
Antec 400WATT PS

In Counter-Strike (Half-Life Engine) AA does not seem to take effect. The only reason I can definatly spot this is because I've played it with AA on with my GF2 and it looked great. However, I have AF on 16X, that seems to work, AA on 6X, but seems to do NOTHING AT ALL.

I've tried 3.2 drivers, 3.1, I have the latest BIOS for my motherboard, I've checked to see if it looks the same with AA off (it does) and Im not sure what else to do. I have 2 friends with similar computers (same video card) and they have the same problem.

without AA Counter-Strike looks really ugly, any ideas? 🙁

I agree, this will do it. There is no 16-bit colour, AA, OpenGL support currently. You need to use 32-bit colour to enable AA.

Sorry to bump up this old thread, but I need to know how to add the "-32bpp" tag in gamespy arcade. I thought you just did it on the command line option, but that doesn't seem to work.

any tips?

Right click on the shortcut in your start menu and go to Properties. Then add the -32bpp to the end of the path in the Target box in the Shortcut tab.

I'm talking about changing the shortcut within Gamespy Arcade. I know how to change the shortcut to counterstrike...but I use GS Arcade to find games, and for some reason when I change the command line option, it doesn't stick. I can get it to work with Gamespy 3D, but I prefer Arcade.

Wow, I just got my 9700pro last week and I read this post long ago. I searched for it and on the 5th page found it, perfect, I was playing CS and thought that the ATi detail(AA) looked like crud. Well you fixed it for me too. Thanks.
