'97 Mercury Sable

I have a 1997 mercury sable and when it gets up to 25mph it seems like it gets stuck in neutral and the cars just revs for a couple minutes and then changes gears and works fine, this only happens after you start the car each time, once it changes gears after the 25mph hold it works fine until you turn the car off again. any ideas what is causing this?

Get an automatic transmission flush, probably. When was the last time you did that?

Also, you don't need huge font, we can all read size 2 just fine.

Those were notorious for Transmission problems.
weak tranny + neglect = it dies

Transmission flush on already problematic auto trans = final nail in the coffin for said trans.

If you don't want to dump the car, take it to a transmission place and have them look it over. Then sit down before they tell you how much it's going to cost to fix/rebuild.

You could replace it with another used one but as desy said those transmissions aren't the most reliable to begin with so that's a big gamble.

Sounds like clutch pack failure, tranny will need a rebuild. You might be better off putting that $$ into a newer car IMO..

They are correct alot of the time.2nd is what let's go due to neglect i've done 2-3 of them the trannies are cheap used at about 300 but unless you can do it yourself your looking at 700-1000 installed

Is the rest of the car still in good shape? If not, then it is time to put it out to pasture. That transmission will need a rebuild, probably sooner rather than later. I normally recommend keeping old cars around, but you do have to consider whether it is worth it or not.
