97 altima: i lost the keyless entry remote

i was at work today and the keyless entry fob fell off my keychain. i looked all over the place (i worked outside today, around hundreds of people and kids) and couldnt find it

my car wont start without it, however. i disconnected the battery at the suggestion of a coworker and it still wouldnt start after the power was back.

is there anything I can do? i see that these things are sold on ebay with programming instructions, do they work (probably be faster to go to the dealer...on monday, meh)?

first thing is i need to start my car to get it home from work, cause i really dont want to pay to have it towed :-/

is there anything i can do?

You don't have the second remote at home ? ? If not you are out of luck as the security system will not disarm or allow the car to start until it is disarmed. On most cars, that is done by the remote keyfob. You may be able to buy a new remote and then program it to your car, but again, the alarm needs to be disarmed first. Otherwise it would easy for a thief to bypass the system.
Car may need to go to a dealership for this one.

or try HERE .......

ive seen stuff like that on ebay, which i mentioned in my OP. i want my car monday, not whenever the thing gets here. its not at home :-/

and ive asked in some nissan forums. nada yet. i hope the dealers parts dept is open early tomorrow.

i called the nissan dealership
the parts guy said the key probably lost its programming...despite me telling him that i had a clearly copied key and that the car would never start without the remote.

then i talked to a service dept guy and he said something else is funky with the electronics, or that it may be an aftermarket security system and i should "have it towed in so we can take care of it"

meh, theyre 35 miles away.

im calling a local mechanic first to see if he has any ideas, but it sounds like im screwed anyway 🙁
