965 or P35 motherboard? which is better?

I have a Gigabyte 965 DS3 running my C2D 6400 at 3.2ghz. My next build will have the quad core Q6600. I would like the go stepping. Should I get another 965 DS3 or go to the newer P35 chipset motherboard. I like Gigabyte but if another brand has a better board, I would go for that as well.

What's the best motherboard that is somewhat future proof?

Asus P5K Deluxe / Gigabyte ( I wouldn't recommend this one ) P35-DS3R
Way better clockers for the Quads against the P965 and the rest.

p35 is the best for overclocking quads right now, some 965 boards are ok but it is silly to by a 965 board now unless price is a major concern (and even then there are some cheap p35's).

Definitely go with the P35 chipset for your quad.

If you want to stick with Gigabyte, I'd recommend the GA-P35-DS3P or GA-P35-DS3R for around $150. If you want a more high end board, then go with the GA-P35-DQ6.

Also check out the Abit IP35 Pro and the Asus P5K Premium.

can you give the names of some cheap p35 boards that are good ? - am interested in stability most of all..& that it should be trouble free. - i won't be overclocking.

am having problems choosing a board for a 1333mhz core2duo. either some are too expensive. or i come acrross reviews with some problem or the other - even in the better end boards where one would not expect such issues.. : / - I was heavily bent on getting an ASUS this time but after reading some user opinions etc.. on some of the boards... I really don't know what to believe..

This is Really not a Good Statement... P35 is a decent Chipset but the p965, and 975x cannot be sneezed at either ..

I Have a ASUS P5WDH 975x that my Xeon-3060 C2D is in.

My Best friend Just bought This MOBO... ASUS P5B Premium Vista Edition

I just Bought this Mobo......ASUS P5K PREMIUM/WIFI-AP

We both bought X 3220 And Same Munchkin Memory We both have Scythe Infinity Coolers

The Moral of the Story is we swapped all different combinations and basically found out that it all performed about the same as long as you took the time to tweak it in and overcome BIOS glitches. P35 is a Good chipset it just needs better BIOS support.

We were able to get virtually the same performance Chip to Chip Board to Board . 3.7 Gigs was the wall as far as posting.

All Three MOBO's Would get into Windows at 3.6 Ghz

The 975x being the exception.. it would post the chips at 3.8 Ghz but it was because the South bridge was at max power the other MOBO's were just tweaked slightly.

Keep in mind all these MOBO's are stripped apart and greased and prepped.
