I don't know if it is a cooincedence after doing a manual install of my Viewsonic PF790 drivers or what....
I seem to get quite a few VPU recoveries going on. Once I was instructed to restart since it wasn't able to recover in hardware mode, and I was working in software mode.
I have Overdrive enabled as well.
All of these occurences have happened when I am just at the desktop or viewing webpages.
I have not played enough games to see if it would happpen in one yet.

I have sent the email crash report to ati every time.

Is this normal with the drivers? Should I exchange for another card?

You should try re-installing the drivers and see if you get the same errors.

Alternatively you could also try different driver versions to see if there is a compatibility issue (bad driver).

Thats about all i can recommend

If memory serves you need at least 3.9 or 3.10 in order to support the XT series. And if that doesn't work perhaps your case doesn't have enough ventilation to run the card at stock speeds!

I reinstalled dx9 then both sound and video drivers after driver cleaner.

What ever the latest drivers from ATI are, that is what I installed.

I don't have a side panel on my case.

update...

I experienced two monitor shut offs as well now. One recovered after I hit a key or so several times. I don't remember if I had the VPU recover on that time or not.

This happened when I did not have Overdrive enabled.

Not good when in a game.
