9600XT stealing power from CPU??

hi

i recently upgraded to an asus 9600XT from a leadtek geforce4 ti4600.

i have a 3.06ghz fsb800 p4. when i run with the geforce4 card, linux and sisoft sandra report the Mhz speed of the processor to be 3006/3007mhz.

however, when i put in the 9600XT, this drops down to 2997/2998 mhz.

can anyone explain to me why this would occur?

also, from looking in the bios, when i have the 9600XT, the 3.3V amount in the Hardware Monitor section goes up a bit.

is my PSU underpowered for the hardware i have?

i have a 350W Antec PSU.

you can check out all the peripherals installed by looking at my system rig profile...

any suggestions to get the Mhz back to 3006 would be appreciated. i don't like losing any, no matter how small the amount 🙂

also, could this symptom be at all responsible for USB ports occasionally not working? i.e. i sometimes i have to switch ports to get the keyboard/mouse recognized, a real pain in the ass.

thanks in advance

leon

I didn't know they made 3.06 gig 800 mhz cpu's... whats the multiplier? 200x15.03? You could always raise your fsb 1 mhz, you shouldn't have any problem with a 15.03 mhz oc 🙂.

Yeah, you have a 3.0GHZ 800MHZ FSB P4.

THe 3.06GHZ P4 is 533MHZ FSB.

So your reported speeds are within normal variations.
