9600xt replacement fan options

the FooL

Senior member
I just picked up a jetway 9600xt to fit into a Shuttle case.
The current stock cooler is LOUD.

Since the card is basically right against the side, I need a single slot solution.
Any advice out there on what can fit besides the stock cooler?

I look at the Zalman heatpipe, but the single slot model doesn't look like it's for the 9600xt.
Also, it seems like I have to give up the PCI slot if it did fit.
Hoping someone's already had to solve this 🙂

Thanks.

You can try the Aerocool VM-101. The heatsink mounts to the back of the card and does not take up a PCI slot. It's passive. But, with a few tye wraps, you can strap an 80mm fan to the back of it @ 7v to make it quiet during activity. If need be.

Hmm... anyone know if the 9600xt and 9800Pro produce the same amount of heat, heh.

Unfortunately, this will take up the PCI slot located that is there (with the Shuttle, the PCI slot is behind the AGP slot.
I'll keep this in mind though.
Thanks.

I'm not sure how handy you are. But, An alternative you can do is: Get a 1U heatsink from either an Opteron or Xeon (Cu) and use a drill to tap the mounting holes of the card.

Example: You can use an Opteron 1U sink. With a XPC Mesh panel. You can run the card passive. No noise at all. Or, with your existing panel, just cut a 80mm hole @ the GPU location and use an 80mm @ 5v to cool it as quiet as possible.

JMO...
