I got one of the bb black friday cards, a standard 9600np in the display propertys it is claiming to be a 9600 pro card, it has samsung memory and the passive heatsink is there a way to verify what it is or is not? has any one else come across on of these.

I know that some 9600SE boxes contained 9600Pro cards, but never heard anything of the normal ones.

Get an overclocker (RivaTuner?) check the core/mem speeds and post 'em here.

THE 9600np has the same core/GPU as the pro. Just clocked slower with slower memory. So it really is a 9600pro GPU.

The memory should make 250 pretty easy (if it?s 4ns samsung) ? and gpu should hit 400 without much problem.

I?ll add, if I was going to push it much past the high 300? s or over 400 you probably want some air flow over the heatsink.

I don't think its right to say 4ns will hit 250Mhz.

I have the same bb 9600np and my mem only goes to 240 max.

Eventhough the mem is rated for 250Mhz if you have circuit board that only supply just enough voltage to run the mem at 200Mhz than no matter how good your mem is ...its only as good as the rest of the board.

oh well..running mine now at 440/230 ....

the core seems to go forever ...weird...pretty stable at 450Mhz as well..

the one that came with omega

perfectly happy at 440/220 right now. Play max payne2 1024x760 4x/4x everything maxed 100fps YES

I would like to see a Ti4200 do that :)

my 9600np kinda sucks. i previously had a geforce mx440, so i was expecting a lot more fps in all games. i use quake 3 as my gain in fps utility, using timedemo. with my geforce 4 mx440 64mb card, i got 260-270fps in the timedemo. with the 9600 np and latest catalyst drivers, gets 200-210fps. even when i change the opengl settings to performance, only gets me 230fps. where the hell is my 270fps... at the least? a gf4mx440 compared to a 9600 is like a pinto to a corvette... come on!?

Dude, you're comparing quake3 benches with fps over 200! It's far more sensitive to CPU/FSB speed and/or low-level driver optimizations than raw video card speed at that point. Compare the cards with a range of benchmarks (especially with AA and AF on) and you'll see that the 9600NP is faster.

yeah, i know its gonna be faster with AA and AF on, but i dont really use those when gaming. im just baffled at how a gf4mx400 is faster in quake 3 then a 9600np. it even plays Savage smoother then the 9600np.

Complaining about less than 260 fps in q3? What happened to this forum??? Matthias is completely correct, q3 is not a good benchmark to be testing and comparing different generations of video cards. If you test it on any other games, especially those using d3d, you will see a huge difference.

i tested it on need for speed underground which is ran in direct 3d, and it performs slightly better, but still seemed sort of sluggish. i seriously think the card has something wrong with it.

did you format/reinstall ? Because changing from an nVidia to a ATI video card really hoses a windows machine.. found this out after getting a 9600P to replace my GF2MX and wondering why CS gave me 30FPS..
