hello all

I am going to be purchasing a new system soon. I am thinking of getting 2 9600gt in sli. Do you think this is a better option than a single 8800gt or 8800gts? fyi, i can affort 2 8800gt in sli.

thanks

If nothing else, I'd wait until the 9800GTX comes out and see if the other cards drop in price. :p

I dunno about the comparison though. I'm still running a G80 GTS :p

The 9600 won't drop, it's the midrange 9 Series card. And the GTs and GTSs won't drop till their 9 Series counterparts are released, the only major price drops SHOULD be the 8800 GTX and Ultra as well as ATI maybe dropping their prices yet again to steal nVidia's thunder. 9600 GT in SLI is a great bargain, and perform very similarly to 8800 GTs in SLI since the 9 series drivers allow for better scaling.

Does that mean that users of the 8-series cards using the 9-series drivers (via tweaked inf or whatever it is that lets them do that) would get the better scaling too?

Possibly, many believe the 9 Series to be driver optimized and better overclocked versions of the GT and G92 GTS so it may be true. But modifying drivers like that is going to take a while unless a nVidia programmer leaks out a large bundle of info.
