What.............................the.................................????????????

This thing has only 64sp's & 4 ROPs. How is it doing so well? I mean, HOW?

Did Nvidia finally implement double precision? Or Double the operations per clock?

I mean, it is dead even with a 3870, and sometimes manhandles is and is neck and neck with a 8800GT?? Something is amiss here. And if the specs are correct, then I, as well as most others in here, never really understood how ROP's function.

Thought the same, have a feeling GPU-Z is reading the ROPs wrong.

AFAIK this is still under NDA so I can't comment on the GPU specs, but the benches I saw showed this card as *ahem* a favorable choice compared to a 3850, so I would expect the factory OCd ones to perform like this.

PS. It only has 1 ROP.......heh...kidding!

Actually winning 5 game tests while 3870 wins 3. And 9600 GT's victories are more significant if you look at them. And both AA game tests did go to 9600 GT.

Don't know did they change anything else on architecture, but their AA-bug is fixed on G94 [using AA consumes too much vram on G92..which is why 8800 GT 256MB has hard time against HD3850 256MB]..meaning that 9600 GT 256MB should give hard time for 8800 GT 256MB.

Ugh... everytime I save up enough pennies to finally purchase nice video cards, the damn next generation comes out 2 weeks later.

Meh...

Well I'm guessing the 9600GT will retail for under $200, possibly in the 160-180 range.

I was surprised to see it neck to neck with the 8800GT, looks like a much more efficient architecture or something because it only has 64 shaders! Imagine if 128 were to be put on the G94.

well, next time .. give us a head's up when you are going to upgrade

... so WE can plan :p

:D

Seriously, it is really good to see nvidia give AMD some competition in the midrange .. it looks like an excellent practical DX10 midrange gaming value.

i wonder what its big bro will be like

it's nowhere near what it should have scored, Geforce 9 is a flop seires by nv which shows the inability of the company

...but am buying gx2 because it's the last souvenir card without PhysX.

.. we are looking at a 9600 :p
-compare it to 8six00 series which truly sux at DX10

think ATi 9600p compared to 9800pro ;)
... with that mental picture of the '6-series' think of nvidia's 9800 series to come

i know that, i was expecting atleast 15,000 3dmark 06 scores for 9600 and 25K barrier for 9800.......Nv rushed the model numbers because of that physx deal.

really disappointed with the power consumption, it's about the same as 8800gt, with only 64sp, its core should be smaller than 8800gt, and should use less power, which means 8800gt still got better power to performance ratio.

Now your just being unrealistic, compare the 8600 to the 9600 and the difference is huge.

Pretty impressive against the 3870 but I noticed they used 8.1 instead of the 8.2 Cats. But who knows maybe thats an advantage for the 3870?

I wish sites would throw in some tests with lower end CPU's for us X2 AMD guys :(

GPU-Z doesn't recognize new chips properly.

9600gt is basically G92 GTS minus 64 SP.

And you chose 15,000 from what data? Or is it a "pull it out of thin air" number?
8600's were a dissapointment as they were outperformed by previous gen high end.
9600GT is just about on par with current high end (up to 3870 & 8800GT) in some situations.

And please explain how the physx deal influenced model numbers. Not just your gut feeling either. Facts. I cannot stand FUD.

They are juggernauts but all their doing is trying to sneak in the 3850 ~ 3870 price bracket. They should have had a decent midrange card a while ago. Not 6 months later.

They did though inthe form of the 8800GT. Its true people refer the GT over the HD3870 and hence why 2 million 8800GTs have been sold worldwide. (according to NVs 4Q CC)

This 9600GT puts immense pressure on the HD3850 because of the fact that its as fast as the HD3870 if not slightly better.

Quite a deal for those with 7600GTs or last gen mid range cards if you ask me.
