If it's the 9600GSO with the 48 SPs (not the 96 SPs of older 9600GSOs), then that score looks ok. Those higher average scores are probably for the 9600GSOs with the 96 shader processors, similar to the 8800GS.

I have used a 9600 GSO 384mb with 96 SP and I got over 12,000

probably not with a 3800 X2

No not with a 3800 X2 but with a 4800 X2.

Didn't we have this discussion before? Are you certain it was 3dMark06, and not 3dMark03? I get lower than 12000 with an HD4850 and an E2140 @ 3.2Ghz, which is loads faster than either one of those AMD CPUs.

I dont know if the 9600gs can get 5000 points more but I am pretty sure I got well over 7000 with an overclocked 8600gt and 5000 X2. I have the scores saved on my pc at home but I am out of town till tomorrow.

My scores (from another thread)

I just built a system for my sister with two of the pny 9600gso 768mb on an EVGA 780 sli MB + q8200

I did some quick tests

3dmark06

1 card CPU 2.33ghz 9766
1 card CPU 2.8ghz 10270
2 cards CPU 2.33ghz 11234
2 cards CPU 2.8ghz 13056
2 cards CPU 3.15 14354

Edit: adding these are 550mhz cards.

The 4 versions I know (I x-ed mine)

[x] SP 96 SH 48 RA 12 192bit bus ddr3 g92 (cut down 8800gt)
[ ] SP 96 SH 48 RA 12 128bit bus ddr3 g92 (cut down 8800gt)
[ ] SP 96 SH 48 RA 12 128bit bus ddr2 g92 (cut down 8800gt)
[ ] SP 48 SH 24 RA 12 256bit bus ddr3 g94 (cut down 9600gt)

9763 3DMark06
E5200 @ 3.75 Ghz
4x1GB DDR2 @ 600
EVGA 9600GSO dual-slot card, unsure of timings, but not really overclocked much.

So I somehow doubt that an AMD64 dual-core could hit 12000 3DMark06. It would have to be running at over 4Ghz just to break 10000.

Larry,

12,000 3d 06
e5400 stock 2.7
8800gt stock
4gb ddr667

With that cpu overclock I'd expect your score to be higher?

Guys, give the details of your 9600GSO's. There were a lot of flavors of this card from different vendors. 48 shaders, 96 shaders, 192 bit, 128 bit, 384, 512, 768, 1GB. Etc.

The 9600GSO spec variation is reminiscent of the the 6xxx series, remember pipe unlocking anyone? :D

well got h.264 cuda using coreavc working with mine. now mkv(web videos) 720/1080p/i run with little cpu usage at all. before 2x time stretch was getting pretty near a 100% cpu use. now..4x without breaking a sweat. not that i watch anything at 4x but its good to have cpu left over for other things.

whats interesting is that playing a weeny sd avi on the second monitor while running something like cs source causes stutters. but playing a 720p mkv with cuda has no effect on gameplay...

Well since everyone kept replying to this I suppose I'll update. Since you guys said the primary bottleneck now was the X2 3800+ I ordered him:

ASUS M4A785-M
AMD Athlon II X4 620 Quad Core
4GB DDR2 800
Windows 7

This got the score up to 8300 from 6800. I'd say his system is well rounded now. :) This was my first system build in at least 5 years, how come no one told me it's so bloody easy now? It wasn't that hard before but it's a joke now.

This CPU is fast enough we can upgrade his video card again in a couple years and not be so badly bottlenecked.

Oh hell yes!!! i had an XFX softmodded 6800nu with that huge ass Arctic Cooling dual slot cooler on it..with a Mobile Barton...that card was in the top 50 or so 6800nu's on futuremark.com...i was so proud! :D and....that was the only time i've ever been performance competitive in the system building world. :D :D actually..that card is still running in one of the boxes at the house...it's doing grunt duty in a 1.8A northwood email/web only rig....sans cooler/OC/softmod...

/threadjack

anyone know which 9600GSO Anand was using for the GTX220 writeup?
